Keep the detail the next person would otherwise have to rediscover
A useful work record keeps more than the final “approved.” It shows what was confusing, what changed the answer and what someone should check next time. When that understanding travels with the job, the owner has fewer old stories to explain and the next worker has a better place to start.
Two wrong numbers can still add up
Imagine Dario reconciles a weekly order report. The total matches the source, so he sends it for review. A closer look finds that one report includes cancelled orders while the other excludes them. Two errors happen to cancel each other out.
“Check the totals carefully” would miss the lesson. Dario did check the totals. The useful discovery is to compare which orders are included before trusting the sum.
A later worker needs that reason. Otherwise, a reassuring number can lead them into the same mistake.
A short record that keeps the useful part
Use this writing guide when an attempt reveals something worth passing on. It works in a shared note as well as in a discussion about the job.

The correction belongs with the work
IPI brings the employee’s proposal, submitted result, assessment and human decision together. A correction stays connected to the same job, giving the owner a way to follow what changed without asking Dario to repeat it.
Inherited Will can capture useful learning from an attempt before the final review. That matters here: the failed check contains the valuable detail. Waiting for a polished success story could hide the very thing the next worker needs.
Make it reach the person doing the next report
Later, Amara takes over weekly reporting. Once set up to receive the relevant Inherited Will lessons, she can get guidance drawn from earlier work when she proposes her job, before doing her own attempt.
She learns why matching totals were not enough. She checks the included orders first and proposes evidence that addresses both the filters and the sum. Dario does not have to stay available to tell the story, and the owner does not become the permanent keeper of it.
Test the note with a person who was not there
Ask a colleague what they would do differently after reading it. If they say only “be more careful,” the note is still too vague. If they name the cancellation filter and explain why it matters, the useful detail has travelled.
Keep the lesson focused on the work. “Dario was careless” gives a successor nothing to do. “Check which orders are included before comparing totals” can improve their next attempt.
